NEW YORK, May 23 — The Trump administration yesterday revoked Harvard University’s authorization to enroll foreign students—who make up over a quarter of its student body—in a sharp escalation of the president’s conflict with the prestigious institution.
KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 — A man has been fined RM10,000 for uploading offensive content on TikTok involving racial and religious sentiments linked to the Kuala Lumpur Tower workers’ issue on March 31.
In a statement yesterday, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said the fine was issued to Mohamad Shafiq Abdul Halim after receiving approval for compound action from the Attorney General’s Chambers.
The case was investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588], which prohibits the misuse of network services to transmit content that is obscene, indecent, false, threatening, or offensive.
MCMC reminded social media users to act responsibly and ethically when posting or sharing content online. It warned that offensive material—especially content touching on religious, racial, or royal sensitivities—would be met with firm action.
The commission reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe, orderly, and harmonious digital environment, in support of efforts to foster unity in Malaysia’s multiracial society. — Bernama
