KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 — A 14-year-old Form Two student from a secondary school in Melaka passed away after collapsing near the school’s sports field while heading to the canteen yesterday.

Melaka Tengah district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, told Berita Harian that the incident occurred around 10.30am during recess.

Prior to the collapse, the student had been participating in a physical education class focused on volleyball.

"Initial investigations suggest that the victim was walking to the canteen when he suddenly collapsed near the school field," Patit said.

He was immediately rushed to Melaka Hospital in an unconscious state.

"Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was performed for 30 minutes, but no positive response was observed. The attending doctor later pronounced him dead," he added.

Patit noted that the student was an active volleyball player at the school.

"The exact cause of death is pending laboratory investigations, but no foul play is suspected. The case has been classified as sudden death," he said.
