MELAKA, April 6 — Melaka State Secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad has dismissed claims circulating on social media about water rationing in the state.

In a statement issued yesterday, he assured that Melaka’s water supply remains stable and under control, despite recent hot weather and lower rainfall slightly impacting raw water levels.

He said the state government, through the Melaka Water Regulatory Authority (BKSA) and Syarikat Air Melaka Bhd (SAMB), has taken proactive steps to maintain a steady supply.

“These measures include optimising water treatment plant operations, making use of existing ponds and lakes, and strengthening ongoing monitoring of raw water sources,” he explained.

Azhar added that efforts are being stepped up to reduce water losses by addressing leaks and improving the distribution system. He stressed that the government is committed to ensuring these initiatives are carried out continuously to protect the state’s water supply.

He also called on the public to use water responsibly, avoid unnecessary wastage, and rely only on official state channels for accurate information, while refraining from sharing unverified reports. — Bernama
