MetMalaysia issues severe thunderstorm alert for Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning with heavy rain and strong winds expected in several states in Peninsular Malaysia until noon on Thursday, Sept 18.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning with heavy rain and strong winds expected in several states in Peninsular Malaysia until noon on Thursday, Sept 18.

In a Facebook update, MetMalaysia said the affected areas are Perlis; Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang and Kuala Muda); Penang; Perak (Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak); and Selangor (Sabak Bernam).

The department explained that such alerts are issued when thunderstorms bring rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour, either ongoing or forecast to continue for more than an hour.

Each warning is short-term and remains valid for up to six hours per issuance. The latest alert was released at 9am today to safeguard public safety and readiness.

MetMalaysia also urged the public to stay updated through its official channels and take necessary precautions.
