SEPANG, March 1 — Operations at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) remain smooth and orderly despite several flight cancellations linked to the escalating situation in the Middle East, according to Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).

MAHB told Bernama that both KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are fully operational, with check-in, security screening, and immigration processes running without disruption.

A total of 26 flights have been cancelled—13 departures and 13 arrivals—mainly affecting routes to and from Middle East destinations and certain long-haul services requiring airspace adjustments.

“No stranded passengers have been registered under our Crisis Response System, and passenger flow across both terminals is well managed,” MAHB said, while noting that the situation remains fluid and further schedule changes are likely.

“Airlines are actively monitoring airspace developments, particularly on long-haul routes, and may reroute flights to avoid affected zones. Malaysia Airports will continue to oversee operations closely and coordinate response efforts to ensure safe and efficient airport functioning,” the statement added.

Passengers traveling to or transiting through impacted regions are advised to check flight statuses directly with their airlines, update contact information, and follow official airline communications for updates.

MAHB confirmed that regular crisis coordination meetings are ongoing, with situation reports (SITREPs) from key stakeholders providing an up-to-date operational overview. Airlines must inform airport management of any operational changes, including cancellations or diversions, and contingency measures remain in place if the situation escalates.

The cancellations come after US and Israeli strikes targeted locations in Iran on Saturday, including Tehran, prompting Iran to launch retaliatory missile attacks on Israel and US military sites in the Middle East. Thousands of flights in the region have been cancelled, with major carriers including Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, Saudia, and Abu Dhabi-based airlines suspending multiple services since yesterday. — Bernama
