WASHINGTON, July 1 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House next week for talks with President Donald Trump, as the U.S. intensifies efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, a U.S. official confirmed on Monday.
KUCHING, Feb 3 — The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) Sarawak has called on workers to report any employers failing to comply with the new Minimum Wage Order, which took effect nationwide on February 1, 2025.
MTUC Sarawak chairman Zaidi Nasar clarified that the minimum wage refers strictly to basic salary and excludes allowances, incentives, or additional payments. Employees paid by piecework, commission, or other variable methods must still receive at least RM1,700 per month.
For businesses with fewer than five employees, the new wage order will only take effect on August 1, giving them time to adjust. Zaidi stressed that employers cannot pay below the minimum wage, even with employee consent, and urged workers to report violations to the Labour Department.
He added that the wage increase aims to ease the rising cost of living and encouraged employees to improve productivity while maintaining good cooperation with employers.
