PUTRAJAYA, Nov 1 — The Budi Madani RON95 (BUDI95) subsidy programme saved Malaysians RM800 million in its first month, the Finance Ministry said.
As of October 31, a total of 16.55 million people had been approved for the scheme — above the government’s 15 million target — with 13.1 million making transactions worth RM2.66 billion.
Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said BUDI95 effectively delivers direct benefits while promoting fiscal responsibility.
Private vehicle users consumed an average of 98.2 litres in October, below the 300-litre limit, with only 0.7 per cent reaching their quota. The allowance for full-time e-hailing drivers was raised to 600 litres, benefiting nearly 58,000 drivers, while over 23,000 fishermen and boat users in Sabah and Sarawak also received aid.
The ministry noted some irregularities, such as users quickly hitting their monthly limits and frequent purchases near border areas, and said monitoring would be tightened under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
