MADRID, Oct 23 — Newly crowned MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez has ended his season early after sustaining a collarbone injury during the Indonesian Grand Prix earlier this month, his Ducati team announced today.

Just a week after clinching his seventh premier-class title at the Japanese Grand Prix, the 32-year-old Spaniard was involved in a collision with Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi on the opening lap in Indonesia, resulting in the injury. Marquez had initially been expected to return for the final two rounds in Portugal and Valencia.

Although doctors confirmed that his recovery is progressing well, Ducati said Marquez will be sidelined for the remainder of the season as he must keep his arm completely immobilised for four weeks before starting rehabilitation.

“After analysing the situation, we decided the best and most sensible approach is to respect the natural recovery period for the injury, even if that means I won’t race again this season,” Marquez said.

He added that the coming winter will be crucial for his recovery: “It will be a tough few months as I work to rebuild my strength and be fully ready for 2026. But this doesn’t take away from what we achieved — becoming world champions again. We’ll celebrate that together soon.”

Ducati’s test rider Michele Pirro stood in for Marquez at the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island, but the team has yet to confirm whether he will continue for the final two races.

Marquez maintains a commanding 166-point lead over his brother Alex of Gresini Racing, who is battling for second place, while Italy’s Marco Bezzecchi sits third, 97 points behind Alex.

The 2025 season concludes on November 16 in Valencia, and Ducati has confirmed that Marquez will also miss the post-season test in Cheste.

“It’s unfortunate, as having him on track would have been very valuable,” said Ducati General Manager Luigi Dall’Igna. “But his full recovery and return to peak condition for next season remain our top priority.” — Reuters
