KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 — MRT Corp has reaffirmed that the Penang LRT Mutiara Line is progressing as scheduled, addressing concerns over the project's pace.

In a statement released yesterday, the agency confirmed it received official approval for advance works under Section 20A of the Town and Country Planning Act on April 15.

This approval follows three months of activity, during which MRT Corp successfully gained access to 86 land parcels — ahead of its planned timeline — through provisions under the Land Acquisition Act, marking a significant step forward.

“MRT Corp has been actively pushing the project over the past three months,” the government-linked company said.

SRS Consortium, the appointed civil contractor, is currently working to fulfil contractual requirements before receiving the Notice to Proceed. Only after that can the firm finalise civil engineering designs and begin utility relocation in preparation for construction.

MRT Corp also reaffirmed its dedication to transparency and steady progress, and called for continued public support as the project advances.

Once completed, the Mutiara Line will connect major residential, commercial, and industrial areas from Komtar to the Penang International Airport, forming a key part of the state’s long-term transport master plan.KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 — MRT Corp has reaffirmed that the Penang LRT Mutiara Line is progressing as scheduled, addressing concerns over the project's pace.
