GUA MUSANG, May 10 — Night-time driving in Gua Musang is becoming increasingly dangerous as accidents involving stray cattle continue to rise, especially on dark and poorly lit roads during heavy rain.

Motorists say sudden encounters with roaming cattle have led to serious crashes, injuries and costly vehicle damage. Fruit wholesaler Ibrahim Ismail, 62, said his four-wheel drive suffered nearly RM4,000 in damage after hitting a cow near Jeram Tekoh last month.

Teenagers Mohamad Syafid Ikhmal Muhamad Zailani and Razim Rosli also sustained injuries in separate motorcycle accidents involving stray cattle, highlighting the heightened risk faced by motorcyclists.

A Bernama survey found the problem remains severe in areas such as Kampung Limau Kasturi, Jeram Tekoh and Chiku 5, where cattle often wander onto roads, particularly in poorly lit areas.

Residents are calling for stricter enforcement, livestock identification tags, and more streetlights and warning signs.

According to district officer Mohd Roshdi Ismail, 191 cattle-related accidents were recorded in 2024, with losses exceeding RM1.14 million. Another 176 cases have been reported so far in 2025, while 42 incidents were recorded as of April this year. — Bernama
