TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
KUANTAN, Dec 16 — Pahang police have dismantled a syndicate involved in developing applications for fraudulent activities following a raid on a house in Puncak Lestari, Mentakab, Temerloh.
Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the operation, carried out at about 6.50pm on December 2, led to the arrest of eight individuals comprising five local men and women, two Chinese male nationals and an Indonesian woman.
He said the suspects, aged between 29 and 39, were believed to be involved in a bogus foreign currency exchange scam targeting victims in China.
“They had been operating from the premises since July and were working as customer service officers, earning monthly salaries ranging from RM2,500 to RM4,000,” he told reporters at the Pahang police contingent headquarters today.
Yahaya said this was the third scam centre uncovered in Pahang this year, following similar raids in Genting Highlands and Bera.
He also expressed concern over rising fraud-related losses, noting that cases recorded between January and November this year amounted to RM90.3 million, compared with just over RM80 million during the same period last year. — Bernama
