TEMERLOH, March 22 — A 34-year-old contractor has lost RM356,342 after falling victim to a fraudulent investment scheme advertised online last month.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman stated that the victim first encountered the "marinasand" investment advertisement on a Google website on February 18.

“The victim registered for the program, which promised a 10 per cent return on his total investment,” Yahaya said in a statement today. He added that between February 18 and March 19, 2026, the contractor made 16 transfers into five different bank accounts using both personal savings and company funds.

The victim realized he had been scammed after receiving only an initial return of approximately RM1,000. He subsequently lost all access to the investment website and failed to receive any further promised profits.

In light of this incident, Yahaya urged the public to consult their local police station before committing to any investments to avoid fraud. He also advised checking bank account numbers through the Royal Malaysia Police’s Semak Mule website before making transactions, and to immediately contact the National Scam Response Centre at 997 if they suspect they have been targeted by scammers. — Bernama
