ISLAMABAD, Nov 10 — Pakistan reiterated its commitment to dialogue with Afghanistan despite the collapse of peace talks following deadly cross-border violence. The two sides met in Istanbul to implement a truce agreed in Qatar on October 19, but Islamabad said the third round of talks “concluded” Friday without progress.
Pakistan stressed that terrorism emanating from Afghanistan, particularly attacks by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), remains its core concern. It accused the Afghan Taliban of failing to take promised measures, while Kabul blamed Pakistan for being “irresponsible and uncooperative.”
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said Pakistan sought to shift all security responsibility onto Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said mediation was progressing and senior Turkish officials may visit Islamabad soon.
Both sides have previously threatened a resumption of hostilities, which killed over 70 people and injured hundreds last month. — AFP
