KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 — Traffic on several major highways was reported to be moving slowly as of 9.30am today, as Malaysians began heading back to their hometowns for the Deepavali celebrations on Monday.

A Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) spokesperson said that on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) E1 northbound, traffic was congested from Sungai Buloh to Rawang and from Bandar Cassia to Bukit Tambun.

“For the E2 northbound route, traffic was slow from Senai to Kulai, while on the southbound stretch, congestion was reported from Kajang to Bangi, Putra Mahkota to Nilai, Ayer Hitam to Machap, and Sedenak to Kulai,” he told Bernama.

He added that on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) eastbound, traffic was also slow-moving from the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) to the Gombak Toll Plaza and from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Enforcement Station to Genting Sempah.

On the North-South Expressway Central Link (Elite) E6 southbound, traffic was sluggish from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to the Nilai (U) Interchange.

The spokesperson also confirmed two accidents along the PLUS route this morning.

“On the E1 southbound, an accident occurred at Kilometre (KM) 73.0 from Pendang to Gurun at 8.55am, blocking the emergency lane, though traffic remains smooth.

“For the E2 route, another accident happened at KM72.7 southbound from Ayer Hitam to Machap at 9.18am. Diversion work is ongoing, and the right lane is closed, causing slow movement in the area,” he said.

He added that weather conditions were generally fair in most areas this morning.

“LLM advises motorists to drive cautiously, follow traffic instructions, and plan their journeys ahead to avoid heavy congestion,” he said.

Motorists can obtain the latest traffic updates via the LLM hotline at 1-800-88-7752, WhatsApp (LLM Info Trafik), X (@llmtrafik), TikTok (@llmtrafik), Facebook (Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia), the official website, or through the TUJU and MyJalan mobile apps. — Bernama
