BANGKOK, April 24 — Thailand’s Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition accusing 44 current and former opposition lawmakers of ethics violations over their 2021 move to amend a law protecting the monarchy from criticism, according to Thai media reports.
PARIT, Sept 22 — The Magistrate’s Court here today fined an Indonesian woman RM2,000 after she pleaded guilty to negligence that led to the death of her two-month-old son last Thursday.
Magistrate Nurul Izalina Raja Ahmad imposed the fine on Dewinta Tefa, 36, with a six-month jail term in default.
The mother of six was charged with negligently causing the death of her son, Arkan Andre Soveeal Asit, at their home in Jalan Sungai Jejawi, Kampung Sungai Dua Kota Setia, at about 5.30am on Sept 18.
The offence, under Section 304A of the Penal Code, carries a maximum jail term of two years, a fine, or both.
During mitigation, lawyer Nurul Syuhada Mohd Yusof said her client is unemployed, has six children (four of whom are in Indonesia), and depends on her husband, who works at an oil palm plantation earning RM1,500 a month.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Mohd Ameerul Nazhif Wan Zulfikri.
Police investigations revealed that the baby had suffocated while sleeping next to his mother, who had accidentally smothered him.
An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as brain swelling and fluid in the lungs due to suffocation. — Bernama
