NEW YORK, May 23 — The Trump administration yesterday revoked Harvard University’s authorization to enroll foreign students—who make up over a quarter of its student body—in a sharp escalation of the president’s conflict with the prestigious institution.
GEORGE TOWN, May 10 — Malaysians can enjoy free ferry rides this Wesak Day, May 12, as part of an initiative by the Penang Port Commission (SPPP) and Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB).
SPPP chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin said the complimentary service applies to both directions between the Sultan Abdul Halim Pier (PSAH) in Butterworth and the Raja Tun Uda Pier (PRTU) on Penang Island.
Ferry services will begin at 6.30am from PSAH and end at 11pm, while departures from PRTU will run from 7am until 11.30pm.
“The public is encouraged to plan ahead and check the latest ferry schedules via SPPP and PPSB’s official websites and social media platforms,” Yeoh said in a statement.
He added that the initiative aims to ease traffic congestion while promoting environmentally friendly and efficient public transport.
Last year’s Wesak Day saw over 4,391 foot passengers and 1,584 two-wheeled vehicles using the ferry service. In total, Penang recorded 2.13 million foot passengers and 747,785 two-wheeled vehicle users in 2024. — Bernama
