NIBONG TEBAL, Dec 31 — Police have arrested two men to assist in the probe into a deadly attack at a Sungai Bakap restaurant yesterday, where a group of masked assailants armed with sharp weapons killed one man and injured two others.

Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said the duo were picked up in the state just hours after the incident.

He said investigators are also tracking down several other suspects and working to establish the motive behind the assault.

“The two men are assisting in the investigation, which is being treated as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he told Bernama.

Preliminary findings indicate that more than 15 masked men armed with sharp weapons carried out the attack.

Azizee urged members of the public with any information to come forward and contact the nearest police station.

Yesterday, media reports stated that a group of masked men confronted the victims at about 4.30pm, allegedly due to a debt dispute.

A 59-year-old man died from severe head wounds, while the two injured victims were taken to Sungai Bakap Hospital for treatment.

Earlier, several videos on social media showed the wounded victims, including one in critical condition, believed to have been assaulted in the incident. — Bernama
