BANGKOK, April 24 — Thailand’s Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition accusing 44 current and former opposition lawmakers of ethics violations over their 2021 move to amend a law protecting the monarchy from criticism, according to Thai media reports.
BUKIT MERTAJAM, Dec 12 — A man who turned himself in after admitting to killing his wife at their apartment along Jalan Tuna in Seberang Jaya has been remanded for seven days to assist police investigations.
Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) police chief ACP Helmi Aris said the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court granted the remand order from today until December 18 under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
He said the suspect surrendered at 11.30am yesterday, confessing to the killing.
“A team from the SPT Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division later went to the apartment, where they found the victim’s fully clothed body lying on a mattress in a room.
“Forensic officers from the Penang Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Department carried out examinations at the scene, collected samples and recovered a knife believed to have been used in the incident,” he said in a statement today.
Helmi added that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive, while the victim’s body has been sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital Forensics Unit for a post-mortem.
He urged anyone with information related to the case to contact the SPT police headquarters or the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.
Yesterday, Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail confirmed that investigations were under way after a 28-year-old man turned himself in and admitted to killing his wife four days earlier in Seberang Jaya.
The victim, a 44-year-old single mother of five, had been married to the suspect for two years. — Bernama
