TAPAH, April 26 — Voting for the Ayer Kuning state by-election has proceeded smoothly without any untoward incidents so far, said Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin.

He said all parties had shown good cooperation throughout the campaign period leading up to the start of voting at 8am today. During this period, police received 10 reports, including one concerning the erection of a temporary structure near a polling centre.

“The structure was not permitted, and following police advice, it was removed,” he told Bernama today.

Noor Hisam also expressed his appreciation to all involved for their cooperation throughout the by-election process.

Earlier, he accompanied Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain on visits to polling centres at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bidor and Sekolah Menengah Agama Daerah Batang Padang around 2pm.

Voting began at 8am today, with 31,281 registered voters casting their ballots across 63 channels at 19 polling centres. The by-election sees a three-way contest between Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir, Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Abd Muhaimin Malek, and Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s (PSM) Bawani KS.

The by-election was triggered following the death of assemblyman Ishsam Shahruddin, who suffered a heart attack on February 22. — Bernama
