KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 — Malaysia must accelerate the adoption and development of artificial intelligence (AI) by fostering innovation and implementing a coordinated, cross-ministerial approach.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this was a key focus of a meeting he chaired today on AI technology strategies and digital assets, which have the potential to drive more sustainable economic growth for the country.

"I emphasised that Malaysia has strong potential to lead in certain areas, particularly Islamic digital assets and the halal industry. However, swift decision-making and implementation are crucial.

"At the same time, we must prioritise cybersecurity threats while building trust among industries and institutions," he said in a Facebook post yesterday.

Anwar highlighted the importance of collaboration among the Digital Ministry, Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry, Finance Ministry, Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, Bank Negara Malaysia, and the Securities Commission. He suggested that a dedicated platform involving these agencies would enable a more structured and comprehensive approach to AI adoption.
