KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 — Police have detained a lorry driver in connection with a crash at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza this morning that claimed the life of a one-year-old boy and left seven others injured.

Kajang police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said the accident, reported at 10.50am, involved a lorry, a car and two sport utility vehicles.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the lorry, which was transporting scrap iron from Semenyih to Putrajaya, suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and crash into the other vehicles.

“As a result, a one-year-old boy died at the scene, while seven others were treated at Kajang, Serdang and KPJ Kajang hospitals,” he said in a statement tonight.

Naazron said checks showed the 42-year-old driver had three prior criminal records involving drugs and other offences, along with four traffic summonses dating back to 2013 and 2016.

A urine test returned negative for both drugs and alcohol. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.

Police urged anyone with information to contact the nearest station or reach out to Traffic Investigating Officer Insp Mohd Raziman Rasid at Kajang District Police Headquarters at 019-4565502. — Bernama
