ALOR SETAR, April 22 — Police have confirmed the arrest of a male teacher from a private school near here, suspected of sexually harassing several students.

Kota Setar police chief ACP Siti Nor Salawati Saad said the 34-year-old suspect was apprehended at 4.45pm last Saturday.

She said two reports were lodged at the Alor Setar police station by victims aged 15 and 25, both accusing the teacher of sexual harassment.

“The first report, received on April 18, came from a former student who claimed the teacher had sent her obscene messages and invited her to engage in sexual acts. She decided to come forward after learning of similar allegations involving other students,” said Siti Nor Salawati in a statement today.

The second report was lodged on April 19 by another victim who alleged that the same teacher had sent her obscene messages and requested nude photos, as well as sexual favours.

The suspect has been remanded for four days until Wednesday to assist with investigations. The case is being probed under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 15(a)/11 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
