JOHOR BAHRU, June 28 — Six 17-year-old male students have been arrested to assist investigations into a bullying case involving a 14-year-old student at a school in Muar last month.

Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the suspects were detained in Muar and Alor Gajah, Melaka, between 1.30am and 2.12am today following a police report lodged yesterday.

In a statement, he said checks revealed that all six had no prior criminal records. They have been remanded for two days until tomorrow to facilitate investigations under Sections 323 and 507B of the Penal Code.

Ab Rahaman also said police are looking into possible negligence involving the hostel warden and school management, as the incident took place in a dormitory. The probe is being conducted under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

He said the victim allegedly suffered chest injuries, bruising around the eyes after being struck on the head, and was forced to hand over money to the suspects, who are senior students at the school.

He added that the victim experienced emotional distress and trauma following the incident, which led him to leave school.

Ab Rahaman urged other students who may have been affected by the same group to come forward and assist investigations, stressing that police take the case seriously and will ensure a transparent and fair probe. — Bernama
