GUA MUSANG, March 20 — Police expect traffic volume in Gua Musang to remain high until tonight as more people return home to celebrate Aidilfitri, said Gua Musang district police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo.

He said vehicles from the Klang Valley continue to enter the district in large numbers, while several breakdowns have been reported along the Gua Musang–Kuala Lipis road in Pahang.

“Congestion at the Merapoh border in Pahang and Kampung Mentara here has stretched beyond 20 kilometres due to multiple broken-down vehicles along the route. Personnel on duty, assisted by members of the public, are attending to these vehicles to help maintain traffic flow and reduce the risk of accidents,” he said when contacted today.

He added that authorities are closely monitoring the situation and carrying out traffic dispersal measures to ease congestion and ensure smoother movement of vehicles.

Bernama checks at around 5pm showed increasing traffic near Kampung Lepan Jaya by Kampung Meranto, while slow-moving traffic was also reported in front of Dewan Kompleks Perdana, Majlis Daerah Gua Musang up to the Bendahara traffic light junction, as well as along the entire Gua Musang–Kuala Krai road.

A motorist from Gombak, Siti Noraini Ghazali, 37, said she had planned to travel home a day before Aidilfitri to avoid congestion but still encountered heavy traffic at the Pahang border en route to Kelantan.

“The traffic jam was caused by a vehicle that had to stop by the roadside due to mechanical issues.

“I chose this route as it is shorter than the East Coast Highway and expected a smooth journey back to Kuala Krai, but the trip has been tiring and exhausting due to the hot weather,” she said. — Bernama
