PADANG BESAR, Dec 27 — Police are searching for a 25-year-old male inmate who escaped from the Bukit Chabang Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (PUSPEN), triggering immediate security measures.

PADANG BESAR, Dec 27 — Police are searching for a 25-year-old male inmate who escaped from the Bukit Chabang Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (PUSPEN), triggering immediate security measures.

Padang Besar deputy police chief Supt Sarih Salleh said the inmate was found missing during roll call at 4.15pm yesterday, shortly after the centre’s Family Visiting Day. A report was lodged at 12.07am.

Police have since launched Op Tutup, deploying officers and setting up three roadblocks across the district to prevent his escape.

The inmate, from Kampung Kubang Pangas in Alor Setar, was undergoing a two-year court-ordered rehabilitation under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The case is being investigated under Sections 223 and 224 of the Penal Code.
