SHAH ALAM, March 15 — Police are investigating a complaint regarding a group of men who removed 28 vehicles from a car park in Kota Bayu Emas, Pendamar, Klang, yesterday, despite the cars being under a pending court ruling for an insurance claim.

Klang Selatan district police chief, ACP Cha Choong Fong, stated that a 44-year-old foreign shipping company director lodged the report at 6:24 pm on the same day.

Investigations revealed that the complainant’s shipping company had transported 1,517 cars by sea from Port Klang to Kota Kinabalu.

"The vessel caught fire en route, but the marine rescue team managed to extinguish the flames and salvage most of the cargo. The recovered vehicles were subsequently brought back to Klang and stored at the car park," he explained.

Further checks indicated that several of the transported vehicles were not insured.

Cha added that the shipping company required car owners to pay a fee covering sea rescue costs before reclaiming their vehicles.

However, some car owners, dissatisfied with this condition, sought assistance from Persatuan Pengguna Semboyan Malaysia to recover their vehicles.

"Despite multiple discussions, the shipping company refused to release the vehicles without a court order.

"Yesterday, a group of men entered the car park and took the vehicles without the shipping company's authorization," he said, noting that the case is being investigated under Section 448 of the Penal Code for trespassing.

Authorities urge anyone with information on the incident to contact the nearest police station or the Klang Selatan District Police Headquarters at 03-33762222.

Earlier, media reports indicated that the owner of MV Malaysia Star had filed a police report against Semboyan Malaysia, alleging that the NGO trespassed and removed several vehicles.

The incident reportedly took place at VV eMall, Jalan Bayu Laut, Kota Bayu Emas, Pendamar, Klang. — Bernama
