IPOH, April 17 — Police have received a report regarding a viral incident in Menglembu where restaurant workers allegedly obstructed Ipoh City Council (MBI) enforcement officers from performing their duties.
Ipoh district police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the report was filed at 6.43pm yesterday by a 40-year-old MBI enforcement officer involved in the incident.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the enforcement team, acting on a complaint from the MBI Health Department to seize chairs and tables at the premises, were confronted by a restaurant worker who allegedly used abusive language and attempted to hinder them.
“The suspect is also accused of punching one of the officers,” Abang Zainal said in a statement last night.
He urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Inspector Sheikh Fateeha Iman at 010-290 8095 or visit the nearest police station.
The case is being investigated under Sections 353 and 186 of the Penal Code, along with Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act.
A 5-minute and 57-second video of the incident, posted by a Facebook user, has since gone viral. The footage shows enforcement officers raiding a premises believed to be a restaurant, with scenes of a woman collapsing and a scuffle breaking out between officers and several individuals. — Bernama
