KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 — Police were forced to open fire to apprehend three suspected kidnappers in a dramatic encounter at Jalan Cengkeh, Taman Cheras, yesterday.

Cheras District Police Chief ACP Aidil Bolhassan said the suspects, three men aged between 24 and 30, were found inside a Perodua Aruz along with a man believed to have been abducted earlier that morning in Taman Nusa Bestari, Johor.

“At around 2.30pm, when a police patrol unit intercepted the suspects’ vehicle and ordered them to exit, they attempted to escape by repeatedly ramming the police car,” he said in a statement.

To neutralise the threat and prevent further danger to the officers, police fired several shots at the vehicle’s tyres, he added.

The victim, a 26-year-old man, is believed to have been kidnapped outside an entertainment outlet at around 5.47am, as captured by CCTV footage.

The motive behind the abduction is still under investigation. — Bernama
