JOHOR BAHRU, June 5 — The teenage driver previously remanded over reckless and dangerous driving linked to a crash that killed four family members in Simpang Renggam near Kluang has been rearrested in connection with a murder investigation.

Kluang district police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said the 19-year-old was first remanded for two days from June 2, with the remand later extended by one day to assist investigations under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He said the suspect was released on police bail after the remand period ended, adding that an application would be made at the Kluang Court today to remand him under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Bahrin previously said the June 1 crash at Kilometre 27, Jalan Renggam-Simpang Renggam, claimed the lives of four family members travelling in a Toyota Vios, including a 10-year-old girl, who were confirmed dead at the scene.

The teenager, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz A250, is believed to have been driving recklessly alongside a BMW 530e driven by his 22-year-old brother, who died while being taken to hospital.

The accident is believed to have occurred when the BMW 530e lost control and veered into the opposite lane, colliding with a Perodua Alza, a Toyota Vios, a Proton Wira, and another Mercedes-Benz. — Bernama
