IPOH, June 7 — A police sergeant lost his life in a motorcycle accident while returning home to Kedah, after his vehicle skidded at Kilometre 253.7 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) northbound near Kuala Kangsar yesterday.

Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the incident occurred at around 7.24pm and involved 58-year-old Shamsul Ishak, a member of the Special Branch at the Kedah contingent police headquarters, who sustained injuries to his left rib area.

“Investigations revealed that the victim is believed to have lost control of his motorcycle upon reaching the scene, causing him to crash into the metal road divider and be thrown from the vehicle. He suffered serious injuries and was rushed by ambulance to Taiping Hospital for further treatment,” he said.

Unfortunately, Shamsul was pronounced dead at approximately 9.24pm in the hospital’s emergency ward.

Datuk Noor Hisam added that the victim was believed to be returning to his home in Alor Setar, Kedah after a holiday and meeting friends in other parts of the state.

The case is currently under investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
