IPOH, June 10 — Police plan to seek a remand order for the driver involved in the deadly crash that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students, once he is discharged from hospital.‍

IPOH, June 10 — Police plan to seek a remand order for the driver involved in the deadly crash that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students, once he is discharged from hospital.

Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the driver is currently receiving treatment at Taiping Hospital.

“We will wait for his discharge before proceeding with any further action,” he told a press conference today, as reported by The Star.

Noor Hisam also confirmed that the driver has not yet provided his statement.

The driver reportedly sustained hand injuries in the crash, which occurred at around 1am on Monday along the East-West Highway near Gerik, Perak.

The chartered bus, carrying UPSI students from Jertih, Terengganu to the main campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak, overturned after colliding with a Perodua Alza MPV.

The accident resulted in 15 fatalities and 33 injuries, including the bus driver, his assistant, and a family of four in the MPV.

The driver of the chartered bus involved in the tragic crash that claimed the lives of 15 UPSI students on the East-West Highway near Gerik remains hospitalised at Taiping Hospital in Perak with hand injuries and has not yet given his statement as of June 10, 2025. — Bernama pic
