KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim clarified that Malaysia remains affected by the recent spike in global oil prices driven by Middle East conflicts, despite the country’s status as an oil producer.

He pointed out that disruptions at the Strait of Hormuz—a critical global shipping artery—have constricted supply and driven costs upward, noting that nearly half of Malaysia's oil supply transits through that route.

"While Malaysia produces oil, our imports actually exceed our exports," Anwar explained in a Facebook post today.

The Prime Minister revealed that government subsidy expenditure surged from RM700 million to RM3.2 billion in under a week to protect consumers and businesses from market price hikes. these funds are distributed via the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) and Budi Diesel initiatives.

Anwar emphasized that the Madani government’s priority remains safeguarding the welfare of the people amid growing global instability.
