KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 — Two foreign nationals have become the first individuals in Malaysia to be charged in court for littering under the newly enforced anti-littering law, according to a report by The Star.
SEOUL, March 11 — North Korea has expressed support for Iran’s selection of its new supreme leader, while accusing the United States and Israel of undermining regional stability, state media reported today.
“Regarding the recent announcement that Iran’s Assembly of Experts elected the new leader of the Islamic Revolution, we respect the rights and decision of the Iranian people to choose their supreme leader,” an unnamed Foreign Ministry spokesperson told state news agency KCNA.
Defying US President Donald Trump’s attempts to influence Iran’s leadership, the Islamic Republic on Sunday appointed Mojtaba Khamenei to succeed his father, longtime ruler Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike on February 28.
North Korea, a long-standing adversary of the US, has previously condemned the US-Israeli strike on Iran as an “illegal act of aggression.” The spokesperson reiterated this stance, stating that the United States and Israel “are destroying the foundations of regional peace and security and escalating instability worldwide.”
“Any verbal threats or military actions that violate a country’s political system and territorial integrity, interfere in its internal affairs, or advocate for the overthrow of its social system, deserve global criticism and rejection, as they can never be tolerated,” the spokesperson added.
In recent months, the Trump administration has sought to resume high-level talks with Pyongyang, with a potential summit between the US president and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un being considered this year. After largely ignoring these overtures for months, Kim recently stated that the two countries could “get along” if Washington recognized Pyongyang’s nuclear status. — AFP
