MANCHESTER, April 28 — Manchester United moved closer to securing Champions League qualification with a 2-1 victory over Brentford on Monday, but interim manager Michael Carrick said the team must continue pushing to finish as high as possible in the Premier League.
LONDON, April 29 — Marcus Rashford is expected to miss the remainder of Aston Villa’s season due to a hamstring injury, according to reports on Monday.
Rashford was absent from Unai Emery’s squad for Saturday’s 3-0 FA Cup semi-final loss to Crystal Palace.
Following the match, Emery said the forward — who joined Villa on loan from Manchester United in January — was likely to be sidelined for "some weeks."
With Villa eliminated from both the Champions League and FA Cup this month, they have just four Premier League fixtures remaining as they shift their focus to securing European qualification for next season.
The 27-year-old Rashford, who had fallen out of favour under United manager Ruben Amorim, enjoyed a revival during his loan spell in Birmingham, netting four goals and providing six assists.
However, with three years still remaining on his contract at Old Trafford, his long-term future remains uncertain.
Rashford was recalled to the England squad last month by new manager Thomas Tuchel, featuring in matches against Albania and Latvia.
England’s next World Cup qualifier is away to Andorra on June 7, followed by a home friendly against Senegal three days later. — AFP
