PUTRAJAYA, March 17 — Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia (LLM) expects traffic to exceed 3.49 million vehicles across major highways and connecting routes nationwide during peak Aidilfitri travel days.

Its director-general, Mohd Hadzmir Yusoff, said the surge is likely to begin as early as tomorrow, with motorists heading towards the North, South and East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

Among major highways, PLUS Malaysia Berhad is projected to record the highest volume at 2.30 million vehicles, followed by the West Coast Expressway (215,000), KL-Karak Highway (210,000), East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (106,000), and Phase 2 (65,000).

For connecting highways, the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) is expected to see 295,000 vehicles, the Kajang-Seremban Expressway (LEKAS) 159,000, and the Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR) 135,000.

Mohd Hadzmir said all concessionaires have been instructed to avoid lane closures except in emergencies from tomorrow until March 30, ensure smooth toll collection — including layered systems at critical plazas — and activate 34 Smart Lane locations along the PLUS Highway.

He added that monitoring will be stepped up across highways, including at Rest and Service Areas (R&R) and lay-bys, with measures such as deploying 65 portable toilets, ensuring sufficient water supply, and increasing staff and parking capacity at selected locations.

Motorists can access real-time traffic updates via LLM’s official social media platforms or by contacting its Traffic Management Centre hotline.

Drivers are also encouraged to plan their journeys using the TuJu application and Travel Time Advisory (TTA), ensure their vehicles are in good condition, and maintain sufficient balance for toll payments via Touch ’n Go, e-wallets, or debit cards.

Earlier, the government announced a 50% toll discount for Aidilfitri, effective from 12.01am on March 18 until 11.59pm on March 19, applicable to Class 1 private vehicles on all highways except at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) and Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link. — Bernama
