PARIS, March 24 — French Ligue 1 title chasers RC Lens have opposed a request by champions Paris Saint-Germain to reschedule their top-of-the-table clash.

The two sides are set to meet on April 11, but PSG requested a change after their 5-0 win over Chelsea last week set up a quarterfinal against Liverpool on April 8 and 14, immediately before and after the Lens fixture.

The league has already granted PSG one postponement for a match against Nantes, originally scheduled between their Chelsea games.

On Monday, PSG confirmed they had formally requested another delay. Lens, a point behind PSG with a game in hand, responded the same evening, insisting they “did not wish to see this date changed” and emphasizing fairness, clear rules, and respect for all involved.

After Lens’ 5-1 win over Angers on Friday, coach Pierre Sage noted that Lens had managed tight schedules earlier in the season without seeking postponements, saying PSG “performs very well” and should understand the constraints of competing on multiple fronts. — AFP
