KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 — A 34-year-old Malaysian man has been sentenced to 11 months in prison after pleading guilty to an attempted robbery at the Columbia Asia Hospital Bukit Jalil parking lot, authorities confirmed today.

According to Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud, the convict was sentenced yesterday under Section 393 of the Penal Code for the failed heist.

The encounter occurred on May 18 at approximately 11:30 AM. The suspect aggressively forced open the car door of a 26-year-old woman, attempting to steal her mobile phone and handbag.

“A struggle broke out and the victim screamed for help before the suspect fled the scene on a motorcycle. No material losses were reported,” Mohd Rosdi stated.

Following an operation by the Cheras district police headquarters' D9 Serious Crimes Investigation Division, the suspect was apprehended last Wednesday at 5:36 PM in Brickfields. A background check revealed the individual has 11 prior criminal records.

Mohd Rosdi added that the man was held in remand for two days before facing charges in court yesterday. Police also recovered a motorcycle, a jacket, and a helmet suspected to have been used during the crime.
