TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
KOTA KINABALU, Jan 21 — Delays in rolling out internet services, especially the installation of fibre Point-of-Presence (PoP) facilities in Sabah schools, have disrupted teaching and learning (PdP) and slowed digitalisation efforts in 736 schools across the state.
Sabah Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk James Ratib said his ministry has received many complaints from schools and parents over problems linked to the contractor tasked with implementing the project.
He said the Sabah government would not hesitate to revoke the contractor’s appointment if there is credible evidence of delays or failure to deliver the project, stressing that students’ interests and the continuity of the state’s education system must come first.
“Among the main issues identified are unsatisfactory internet services at several schools, with bandwidth failing to reach the levels promised, as well as slow action by the contractor in responding to complaints.
“There are also PoPs that are still not ready for use despite being recorded as operational, and delays in fibre installation even though the sites have already been identified,” he said in a statement issued here today.
James added that the situation has compelled some schools to continue relying on the 1BestariNet tower, resulting in internet access that remains weak and inconsistent.
As a result, he said the state government will carry out a comprehensive review of the contractor’s performance, focusing on adherence to project timelines, service quality and the effectiveness of complaint handling.
“The review is intended to ensure there are no prolonged delays that continue to disrupt the PdP process, especially in rural and remote schools.
“The ministry takes this matter seriously, as stable and reliable internet access is a fundamental requirement in today’s education system,” he said. — Bernama
