PAPAR, June 9 — A 42-year-old man died after being electrocuted while attempting to pluck mangoes in Kampung Bambangan earlier today.

Papar Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Rozlan Osman said they received an emergency call via MERS999 at 3:01pm and deployed a team of eight firefighters, who arrived at the scene within seven minutes.

“The victim had reportedly climbed a tree and was using a metal rod to retrieve mangoes when the rod came into contact with a nearby live wire, causing him to be electrocuted and lose consciousness while still in the tree,” he said.

Firefighters managed to bring the man down using a ladder and rescue rope after Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) cut off the power supply.

A medical officer later confirmed the man had died at the scene. His body was handed over to the police for further action. The operation ended at 4:29pm. — Bernama
