WASHINGTON, June 12 — The White House stated on Tuesday that President Donald Trump will not tolerate “mob rule,” as demonstrations against his immigration policies continue to spread across the U.S., despite a military-backed crackdown in Los Angeles.
KOTA KINABALU, March 18 — Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Christina Liew will meet with AirAsia to discuss the suspension of several international flights from Kota Kinabalu, including routes to China.
The affected routes include reduced flights to Hong Kong (from 10 to seven weekly, effective March 30, 2025) and suspensions to Kaohsiung, Kunming, Manado, Ningbo, and Wuhan between March and May 2025.
Speaking at a Sabah tourism industry engagement session, Liew highlighted the sector’s strong recovery in 2024, with 3.14 million visitors exceeding the initial three-million target, generating RM7.28 billion in tourism receipts. She credited enhanced air connectivity, including partnerships with AirAsia and Royal Brunei Airlines, for this growth. Sabah now aims to attract 3.5 million tourists in 2025, with AirAsia targeting five million passengers through Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, and Tawau airports.
Liew reaffirmed Sabah’s commitment to sustainable tourism, infrastructure improvements, and community-based tourism under the Culture, Adventure, and Nature (CAN) strategy. She also acknowledged federal support through grants like GAMELAN and GSSP, which have strengthened both domestic and international tourism.
Also present were Tourism Malaysia director general Datuk Manoharan Periasamy and Assistant Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai. — The Borneo Post
