PARIS, June 7 — US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth warned yesterday that Europe was facing what he described as an “invasion” of dangerous ideologies arriving by sea, drawing a link between immigration and the legacy of the D-Day landings during remarks in Normandy.
KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 — Police have arrested a debt collector with a previous criminal record over the alleged confinement, abuse, and sexual assault of a 14-year-old boy in Bukit Kemuning earlier this month.
Shazeli Kahar confirmed that the suspect was detained at his rented room in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, May 16, and has been remanded for three days to assist investigations.
“If the investigation is not yet complete, we will apply for an extension of the remand order,” Shazeli said during a press conference at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters today.
He added that the suspect, an ex-convict released from prison in April last year, had recently relocated to Kuala Lumpur from Kota Kemuning.
According to police, the man worked as a debt collector and frequently travelled using public transportation. Authorities are also investigating whether the company he worked for was legally registered.
Initial investigations found that the victim was randomly targeted. The suspect allegedly approached the teenager on May 12 with an offer of a mobile internet package, asking the boy to help carry items into a house before the incident took place.
The teenager was later rescued after a neighbour alerted the police.
So far, investigators have not identified any additional victims connected to the suspect following the report.
