SHAH ALAM, Feb 18 — The suspect behind last week’s shooting at a Setia Alam shopping mall was shot dead in a police raid at a Pulau Ketam hotel early this morning.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the man, in his 30s, was tracked down around 3 a.m. in a joint operation by Bukit Aman and the Selangor Criminal Investigation Departments.

“A shootout occurred inside the hotel room, and the suspect was killed,” Hussein said, adding that two loaded firearms were recovered.

The suspect, who had nine prior criminal records, including drug-related and robbery offences, had been hiding in the hotel for two days.

On February 8, a cleaner was shot in the leg at a Setia Alam shopping mall. The suspect fled by hijacking a vehicle and forcing the driver to aid his escape. Police later identified him and launched a manhunt. — Bernama
