KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 — Traffic on major highways heading out of the Klang Valley is heavily congested this evening as vehicle numbers surge ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays.

A spokesman for the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) said northbound routes are particularly affected, with severe congestion reported between Tapah and Gopeng following a fatal accident at KM296.7.

“Although the accident site has been cleared, rainy conditions in the area are contributing to slow-moving traffic,” she said when contacted today.

Traffic is also moving slowly along several stretches, including Bukit Lanjan to Rawang, Taiping to Bukit Merah, Jawi to Bandar Cassia, and Juru to Bertam.

On southbound routes, congestion is building from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to Kajang, from Bandar Sri Putra towards the Seremban R&R area, as well as along the Port Dickson–Senawang route between Pedas Linggi and Simpang Ampat, and from Kulai to Sedenak.

Meanwhile, traffic towards the east coast is sluggish from the Gombak Toll Plaza to Bukit Tinggi, with congestion also reported on the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) between Cheneh and Chukai, and near the Kuala Terengganu Toll Plaza.

LLM expects traffic volume to continue rising until midnight, as today marks the final day of the 50 per cent Aidilfitri toll discount, which ends at 11.59 pm.

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys carefully and check the latest traffic updates via the LLM toll-free line at 1-800-88-7752. — Bernama
