MELAKA, April 11 — A 27-year-old man was reportedly arrested late last night, just two hours after allegedly molesting a woman who was jogging alone at Taman Bandaraya Bukit Serindit.

According to Utusan Malaysia, the suspect was detained around 12.05am near the scene by a team from the Banda Hilir police station after the victim quickly reported the incident and identified him.

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the suspect approached the woman from behind, hugged her, covered her mouth, and molested her.

“He then tried to drag her into nearby bushes, but she managed to fight back and scream for help,” he said.

Passers-by reportedly intervened after noticing the commotion, leading to the woman’s rescue.

Dzulkhairi added that the suspect tested negative for drugs and has been remanded for four days until April 14 to assist in investigations under Section 354 of the Penal Code.

Police have urged the public to remain alert when alone in public spaces and said patrols will be increased at popular recreational spots.
