SIPITANG, April 22 — Residents have been urged to stay alert after a crocodile was spotted in Sungai Kampung Mesapol near a water treatment plant on Monday.

A fisherman, who requested anonymity, said he noticed the reptile while fishing along the riverbank on Sunday afternoon, adding that it was seen swimming in the middle of the river.

The sighting has sparked concern among locals, especially those who rely on the river for daily activities. He cautioned that the crocodile could pose a danger, particularly to children who often swim there, and advised boat users to remain vigilant.

Residents also claimed that crocodile sightings have become more common recently, not only in rivers but also along coastal areas. Similar encounters were reported in Tanjung Nipis during recent floods, as well as in Pantai Marintaman and Kampung Pintas Kubu.

One resident noted that the crocodile is frequently seen basking along riverbanks and called on the Wildlife Department to take necessary action.
