KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 — Malaysia’s top women’s squash player S. Sivasangari saw her campaign at the 2024-2025 World Championships come to an end following a 1-3 defeat to local favourite Olivia Weaver in the quarter-finals held in Chicago, United States.

The 41-minute clash at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness saw fourth seed Weaver deliver a commanding performance to outplay seventh seed Sivasangari 11-3, 8-11, 11-4, 11-5.

Despite a strong showing in the second game where she levelled the match, the 26-year-old Sivasangari was unable to maintain momentum as Weaver upped her pace and control to close out the victory.

Sivasangari’s exit marks the end of Malaysia’s challenge at the tournament, following Ng Eain Yow’s third-round loss in the men’s event on May 13. Eain Yow was outclassed by world number one Mostafa Asal of Egypt, losing 0-3 (4-11, 6-11, 7-11) in a 56-minute match.

Weaver now advances to the semi-finals, where she will face a formidable opponent in Egypt’s seven-time world champion, Nour El Sherbini. — Bernama
