BANGKOK, April 24 — Thailand’s Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition accusing 44 current and former opposition lawmakers of ethics violations over their 2021 move to amend a law protecting the monarchy from criticism, according to Thai media reports.
IPOH, March 7 — Six people escaped without injuries after the vehicles they were travelling in were struck by fallen trees in Taman Bersatu near Simpang Pulai yesterday.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received an emergency call at 4.43pm.
“The incident involved two trees that fell onto three vehicles — a Proton Saga, a Proton Persona and a Volkswagen Passat. All occupants were safely rescued by members of the public.
“Four women in their 20s were inside the Proton Persona, while the other two cars were each driven by a man in his 50s,” he said in a statement.
Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lashed Ipoh for nearly an hour from about 4pm, also damaging tents at a Ramadan bazaar at Sentra Mall.
Meanwhile, the Kinta District Civil Defence Force (APM) Operations Control Centre (PKOD) reported receiving about 19 cases of fallen trees across the district, with the number still increasing.
“The strong winds, which lasted for over an hour, caused multiple trees to topple, including in Taman Cempaka, Gunung Rapat, Chemor, Taman Perak, Taman Desa Tambun, Taman Klebang Putra and Taman Bersatu in Simpang Pulai,” it said in a statement.
However, no homes have been reported damaged so far, it added. — Bernama
