BODØ (Norway), Oct 1 — Tottenham salvaged a dramatic 2-2 draw at Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League league phase yesterday, thanks to a late own goal by defender Jostein Gundersen.

Local hero Jens Petter Hauge struck twice for the Norwegian debutants, putting them on the brink of a famous win. But Spurs, last season’s Europa League champions under Thomas Frank, battled back through Micky van de Ven’s header and the 89th-minute equaliser to snatch a point.

The match, a rematch of last year’s Europa League semi-final, looked set to end in Bodo/Glimt’s favour until the late twist.

“The positives were the mentality and character,” Spurs boss Frank told TNT Sports. “They were better than us in the first half. We stayed in the game and kept fighting, and that gave us a very good point away from home.”

Match Highlights

Missed Penalty: The hosts had the chance to go ahead earlier when awarded a spot-kick, but Kasper Høgh blasted over, continuing his poor run from the spot this season.

Hauge’s Brilliance: Bodo/Glimt took full control after the break, Hauge curling home the opener before rifling in a second on 66 minutes.

Spurs’ Response: Spurs thought they had equalised through Rodrigo Bentancur, but VAR chalked it off. Minutes later, Van de Ven headed in from Pedro Porro’s cross to cut the deficit.

Late Drama: With both sides striking the woodwork in a frantic finale, Spurs finally levelled when Gundersen inadvertently bundled the ball into his own net after a save rebounded off him.

The draw leaves Tottenham on four points from two games, while Bodo/Glimt have now recorded consecutive 2-2 draws, having snatched a last-gasp equaliser at Slavia Prague on matchday one.

For the Norwegian side, it was a bittersweet night—their first-ever home game in Europe’s elite competition, nearly crowned with victory, but cruelly denied at the last moment. — AFP
