TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
PUTRAJAYA, Dec 16 — Sabah’s tourism sector grew by 4.2 per cent in 2024, generating RM13.7 billion in revenue and contributing 12 per cent to the state’s economy, up from 11.7 per cent last year, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said growth was driven mainly by retail trade, accommodation, food and beverage services, as well as transport and fuel retail. Internal tourism consumption surged 46.5 per cent to RM12.1 billion, supported by higher inbound tourism spending.
Inbound tourism expenditure rose to RM6.2 billion, aided by increased international arrivals following the expansion of direct flights to Kota Kinabalu from South Korea, China and Brunei. Domestic tourism spending also climbed strongly, led by shopping and transport services.
Employment in Sabah’s tourism industry increased by 6.9 per cent to 387,600 in 2024, driven largely by gains in retail trade and accommodation and food and beverage services. — Bernama
