BANGKOK, April 24 — Thailand’s Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition accusing 44 current and former opposition lawmakers of ethics violations over their 2021 move to amend a law protecting the monarchy from criticism, according to Thai media reports.
KUALA TERENGGANU, March 15 — The Terengganu Road Transport Department (JPJ) has formed five teams comprising 10 officers who will go undercover as passengers to monitor bus drivers during the 2026 Hari Raya Aidilfitri (HRA) special operation from March 16 to 29.
Terengganu JPJ director Mohd Zamri Samion said the presence of undercover officers on express buses is aimed at ensuring drivers remain alert and comply with safety regulations while transporting passengers.
He said a total of 44 operations will be conducted along several routes, including Kuala Terengganu–Pahang, Pahang–Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu–Kelantan, Kelantan–Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu–Kuala Lumpur, and Kuala Lumpur–Kuala Terengganu.
“We will also increase awareness by placing banners at strategic locations to remind bus drivers and passengers that offences such as not wearing seat belts can result in fines.
“Depot inspections will also be carried out to ensure buses are in good condition and comply with all safety requirements,” he said after launching the 2026 HRA special operation and the Ops Motosikal (Rempit) aimed at curbing illegal street racing at the Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge last night.
Mohd Zamri added that 22 motorcyclists, including a 17-year-old girl, were detained during the Ops Motosikal (Rempit), and all the motorcycles involved were confiscated for various offences, including extreme modifications and expired road tax.
“Some of the motorcycles had their rear brakes removed to increase speed, while others were modified in terms of model, engine block, and other components. Such alterations significantly raise the risk of fatal accidents.
“That is why Terengganu JPJ has intensified its special motorcycle operation to ensure riders follow the law and remain safe,” he said.
He also revealed that between Jan 1 and March 11, a total of 149 motorcycles were seized and 5,606 summonses issued under the special motorcycle operation. — Bernama
